Texas A&M AgriLife forage sorghum plot tour set for Aug. 25 at Bushland
Trial offers 87 different hybrids examined in limited irrigation environments
Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service personnel at the Texas A&M AgriLife High Plains Research and Extension Center at Canyon will host the annual Forage Sorghum Plot Tour from 9-11 a.m. on Aug. 25 at the AgriLife Research station at Bushland.
Registration for the free event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts. The hybrid trial overview will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a plot tour.
To get to the plots, exit Interstate 40 at Bushland and turn south under the highway. Go west on the frontage road for a half mile and follow the signs to the plots.
The event will allow producers to learn about 87 different sorghum hybrids trialed in a limited irrigation production environment and to hear forage sorghum research project updates, said Kevin Heflin, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist and assistant professor in the Texas A&M Department of Soil and Crop Sciences.

- Disease management in forage sorghum — Nolan Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Research and AgriLife Extension plant pathologist and assistant professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, Canyon.
- Forage sorghum use in the dairy industry — Juan Pineiro, DVM, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension dairy specialist and assistant professor in the Department of Animal Science, Canyon.
