New World screwworm seminar set for Aug. 24 in Van Horn
Topics cover threats to livestock and wildlife, steps for prevention and response
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a New World screwworm seminar for livestock producers, landowners and wildlife managers in Culberson County on Aug. 24 in Van Horn.
The seminar will begin at 3 p.m. at the Van Horn Convention Center, 1801 W. Broadway St.. The event is free and open to the public.
About the Seminar
The program will feature a presentation by Sonja Swiger, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Stephenville and professor in the Department of Entomology, along with participation from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, a local game warden and the Texas Animal Health Commission.
Discussion topics will include the biology of the New World screwworm, the pest’s threat to livestock and wildlife, detection and reporting, and steps producers and landowners can take to protect their animals.
