BURNET – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has named Kelly Tarla the new agriculture and natural resources agent for Burnet County.
Making the announcement were Burnet County Judge James Oakley and AgriLife Extension district director Marty Gibbs of San Angelo.
Gibbs said Tarla, whose first official day is June 15, will initially complete a modified version of AgriLife Extension’s First Step orientation program in Lampasas, Llano and Bell counties before assuming her permanent duties on July 15.
“We are very happy to make this announcement naming Kelly to this key position,” Gibbs said. “She has a rich background in youth educational activities relating to agriculture. This skill set, along with her adult programming skills, should pave the way to build upon Burnet County’s long tradition of excellence in AgriLife Extension education.”
Tarla earned a master’s degree in agriculture and a bachelor’s degree in agriculture services and development from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, part of the Texas A&M University System.
According to her resume, Tarla’s professional work background includes stints as an agriculture science/FFA teacher in Higgins and Academy, an AgriLife Extension agent for 4-H and youth development in Bastrop County, and a fifth-grade teacher in Florence.
Tarla fills the position formerly held by veteran AgriLife Extension agent Wade Hibler, who retired August 2014 after 33 years with the agency; 22 of which were served in Burnet County.
