Micah Walker is new agriculture and natural resources hire

MASON – Micah Walker has been named the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for agriculture and natural resources in Mason County, according to a joint announcement made by Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden and Marty Gibbs, AgriLife Extension district administrator in San Angelo.

Walker assumes his new post Aug. 1, Gibbs said.

“I’m very confident in this appointment as Micah is no stranger to AgriLife Extension,” Gibbs said. “He is transferring to Mason County from Gillespie County where he has served our agency since 2011 in the 4-H youth development post,” Gibbs said.

According to Gibbs,Walker’s previous AgriLife Extension experience has honed his proficiencies in planning and implementing effective educational programs, recruiting and training volunteers, committee work and working within a team structure.

Walker’s professional affiliations include memberships in the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association and the Texas Agriculture Extension 4-H Agents Association. He has also garnered recognition from the agricultural agents association by being presented with their 2012-2013 Early Career Agent Award.

Walker earned a master’s in agriculture education and a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary agriculture from Texas Tech University.

Prior to joining AgriLife Extension, Walker was beef herd manager for Miller Farms at Abernathy.
