PAMPA – Mike Jeffcoat has been hired as the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agriculture and natural resources agent for Gray County, but he is not new to the world of Extension.

Jeffcoat spent the past 26 years as an Oklahoma Cooperative Extension county educator for Jefferson County in Waurika, Oklahoma. He began in Gray County on Sept. 1.

“We are certainly fortunate to have Mike and all of his Extension experience,” said Brandon Dukes, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Amarillo. “He will be a great asset to the producers and programs in Gray County.”

Jeffcoat, a native of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from Oklahoma State University and his master’s degree in business administration from Oklahoma City University.

He said he made the recent move to Texas to be closer to family, and he’s looking forward to the challenges the move across the border will bring.

“I came from a wheat and cattle county where most of the wheat was used for forage,” Jeffcoat said. “In Gray County, I will see more row crop country, concentrated in cotton and sorghum.

“It will be a different world, but one that offers new opportunities and challenges. I hope to get up to speed quickly and be able to serve our clientele in Gray County.”
