New Clay County agent hired by AgriLife Extension

HENRIETTA – Bill Holcombe has been hired as the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agriculture and natural resources agent for Clay County, moving from Galveston County, where he was the agency’s 4-H youth development agent.
“AgriLife Extension’s District 3 and Clay County are very pleased to bring in Bill Holcomb as the new ag and natural resources agent,” said Miles Dabovich, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Vernon. “He has a strong agricultural upbringing and a tremendous record in 4-H and youth programming. He is a perfect combination for Clay County.”
Holcombe earned a master’s in agriculture from Sam Houston State University and a bachelor’s in forestry from Texas A&M University. He has been with AgriLife Extension since 2005. In addition to serving as the 4-H agent, he is a member of the Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Texas Association of Extension 4-H Agents and Texas County Agricultural Agents Association.
His family background is in production agriculture, both ranching and farming, in Milam County. He said growing up in a rural community, farming and ranching were part of his everyday life, as was 4-H. He also is the son of a county agent, so he said, “AgriLife Extension has always been in my blood.”
“I have worked, vaccinated and cut cattle. I have planted and harvested various crops and hauled and cut hay,” Holcombe said. “Growing up, agriculture was everywhere; there just wasn’t any way not to be involved in it. I believe all of these experiences will help me in my new role and help me reach out to the various clientele across the county to meet their needs.”
