PAINT ROCK – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has named Tanner Wieghat as the new county agent for agriculture and natural resources in Concho County, effective Jan. 1.

The announcement was made by Concho County Judge David Dillard and Marty Gibbs, AgriLife Extension district administrator in San Angelo.

“I’m confident Tanner will be a strong asset to the AgriLife Extension programming effort in Concho County,” Gibbs said. “He has an extensive rural background and was an active 4-H livestock exhibitor while growing up. He also has demonstrated that he works well with both youth and adult audiences, and has the drive and initiative to build on the already strong AgriLife Extension tradition in this strong rural county.”

Wieghat earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees in animal science from Texas A&M University, College Station, and a Certificate in Business from the Mays Business School there. He also earned an associate of science degree in agriculture from Connors State College at Warner, Oklahoma, graduating magna cum laude.

While attending Texas A&M, he served as a graduate assistant in the department of animal science and also served two years as coach of the university’s winning wool judging team. In addition, he managed the Texas A&M Wool Laboratory, performing inventory management, facility maintenance and facility improvements.

Wieghat also served internships with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and with the State Fair of Texas.
