BRYAN — Zach Davis, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for agriculture and natural resources in Hill County, has received a 2015 Superior Service Award in the county agent category.

Superior Service Awards recognize AgriLife Extension faculty and staff members who provide outstanding performance in education or other service to the organization and to Texans. The award was presented Jan. 12 during the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Conference in Bryan.

Davis, who previously was the AgriLife Extension agent in Johnson County for nine years, was cited for his programs in rural land management, livestock and forage production, which are said to have “helped thousands of people maintain their livestock and land, manage risks and market their products.”

The estimated economic impact of his programs is more than $2.5 million, according to the nomination.

Davis led a sustainable livestock and forage program that included 24 events attended by more than 1,400 people in Johnson County. He also provided regular news releases for some 25,000 readers weekly. More than 90 percent of attendees who responded to a survey of his programs said they had increased their knowledge of marketing strategies and options for their cow-calf operations.

He also was cited for a rural land management program aimed at new landowners who were relatively inexperienced in traditional agricultural practices and natural resources management.

Davis also arranged for programs on grass establishment and drought recovery, weed control, service agencies in agriculture and pond management to help help people get the most from their land and operations, according to the nomination.

He bolstered educational opportunities by conducting result demonstrations so that attendees could observe new and improved technology, with a high percentage of participants indicating they continue to use the information for their operations.

Davis is an active member of the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association, for which he has has served as the District 8 director and alternate director for the past three years, as well as on numerous committees and planning groups.
