Schroeder receives President’s Award for Academic Advising

COLLEGE STATION – Ashlea Schroeder, senior academic advisor in the department of biological and agricultural engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station, recently received the 2016 President’s Award for Academic Advising.

The award recognizes individuals who have exhibited qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor, according to the nomination.

Schroeder joined the department in 2007 and was promoted to senior academic advisor in 2012. She serves as academic advisor to undergraduates in two degree programs – biological and agricultural engineering and agricultural systems management. She is a Texas A&M graduate with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies.

“I found that most advisors don’t take the time to find out who you are even after you are in their department, whereas Ashlea cares from the moment she meets you,” wrote one nominator. “Without the career and major guidance from Ashlea, I wouldn’t have found my new major, which has ultimately impacted many aspects of my life.”

Another letter of support stated:  “Ashlea exemplifies the best in an academic advisor: knowledgeable, strong work ethic, dedicated and a passion for what she does.”

The department, ranked as one of the largest in North America is jointly administered by the Dwight Look College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
