AgriLife Extension sets landscape school in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO – Aspiring home landscapers anxious to install or rejuvenate their yards this spring, should add the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service landscape school to their to-do list.
The Earth-Kind Landscape Design School is set for 6-9 p.m. March 20, 21, 27 and 28 in San Angelo, said Allison Watkins, AgriLife Extension horticulturist in Tom Green County. All classes will be at the Tom Green County 4-H Center, 3168 N. U.S. Highway 67.
Tuition for the course is $60 per household. Though only one set of materials will be given per registration, spouses are welcome to attend.
“The goal of this program is to help homeowners get ready for spring, and get on track with a healthy, good-looking landscape that can thrive in West Texas conditions,” Watkins said.
“We’ll be teaching and offering tips on lawn and tree care, plant selection, soil management and water conservation as well as basic landscape design techniques.”
The school consists of four distinct classes, plus a separate half-hour private landscape consultation to provide participants with individual design or plant material questions.
Watkins will teach the first two classes and Dr. Steve George, AgriLife Extension horticulture specialist at Dallas, will teach the design portion during the last two classes.
“The landscape design school Dr. George will lead will be especially helpful for those with new homes or those wishing to improve their existing landscapes,” Watkins said.
