AgriLife Extension’s Schleicher County 4-H team takes national wool judging title

SONORA – The Schleicher County 4-H senior wool judging team won the 57th National 4-H Wool Judging Contest in Sonora recently with a combined score of 1,809 points.
The contest and its sister competition, the 17th annual FFA Wool Judging Contest, highlighted the 80th annual Sonora Wool and Mohair Show June 13-15.
Winning Schleicher County team members were Sierra Forlano, Franklin Buchholz, Micaela Forlano and Emmie Mynatt. Sierra Forlano took high individual honors for the entire contest with a score of 625 points.
4-H is the youth component of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
The Canyon High School FFA team from New Braunfels won the National FFA Wool Judging Contest with a total score of 1,862 points. Team members were Amber Pawelek, Hannah Egbert, Peyton Wong and Kami Pelech. Pawelek’s score of 631 points earned her high individual honors for the contest.
The National 4-H and FFA wool judging contests are the premier events of the Sonora Wool and Mohair Show. The show offers a plethora of youth judging contests and wool and mohair fleece competitions. It is sponsored by the Sonora Lions Club and Sonora Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Sonora Wool and Mohair Company and AgriLife Extension.
