North Texas seminar for pest control pros is low-cost CEU opportunity

RICHARDSON — The Fall Pest Management Seminar by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offers one of the most cost-effective options for professional continuing education units, or CEUs, in the region, organizers said.
“Early registration is $70, and that includes lunch,” said Dr. Mike Merchant, AgriLife Extension urban entomologist in Dallas.
The course, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 2, is for commercial and non-commercial pest control applicators with turf- and ornamental-oriented licenses, he said. Continuing education credit will count for both structural and agricultural license holders. This year’s meeting will be at the Richardson Civic Center, 411 West Arapaho Road, Richardson.
“This is a new location for the seminar,” Merchant said. “It’s a very nice facility and no more hard yellow chairs like we had in years past. Hopefully that will entice a few more folks to join us.”

— Review of the Latest Ag and Structural Pesticide Laws and Regulations, Allison Cuellar, compliance specialist, Texas Department of Agriculture, Austin.
— Rodent Management, Janet Hurley, AgriLife Extension school integrated pest management specialist, AgriLife Extension, Dallas.
— Update on Common Turfgrass Pests, Gary Brooks, Bayer Crop Sciences, Weatherford.
— Best Management Practices for Weeds, Raymond Miller, entomologist, Dow Agrosciences, Raleigh, North Carolina.
— Designing IPM Programs to Better Protect Honeybees and Other Pollinators, Dr. Frank Wong, plant pathologist, Bayer Crop Sciences, Alexandria, Virginia.
