AgriLife Extension sets professional applicators conference in Odessa

ODESSA – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Ector County will conduct the 2017 Professional Applicators Conference from 7:20 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 12 in Barn A of the Ector County Coliseum, 4201 Andrews Highway, Odessa.
Individual preregistration is $100 by Dec. 3, and $125 thereafter. The fee includes lunch served at noon with time set aside for commercial chemical company booth visitation. To preregister and for more information, call the AgriLife Extension office in Ector County at 432-498-4071.
“This is an excellent opportunity for those needing Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units,” said Steve Paz, AgriLife Extension agent in Ector County. “We have been approved to offer seven private applicator CEUs and a like amount for professionals needing the agency’s structural credits. These will all be offered by a top-notch lineup of presenters.”
The structural CEUs will include one each in laws and regulations, general, pest, lawn and ornamental and weed, and three in the general “other” category, Paz said.
Speakers and topics will include:
- Care and Management of Permian Basin Trees with Oak Wilt Update, Jeff Floyd, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent for Ector and Midland counties.
- Weed and Brush Management of Landscapes, Small Acreages and Rights of Way, Dr. Peter Dotray, AgriLife Extension weed specialist, Lubbock.
- Insect Management of Trees, Shrubs and Ornamentals, Dr. Charles Allen, AgriLife Extension entomologist, San Angelo.
- Laws and Regulations, Paul Scarborough, Texas Department of Agriculture.
- Becoming a Better Insect Identifier, Brad Easterling, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent, Glasscock County.
- Pests in Structures, and Termites in Structures, Allen.
- Minimizing Pesticide Drift in the Permian Basin, Dotray.
- Beneficials and Management of Pest Insects and Weeds, Zan Matthies, AgriLife Extension agent emeritus, Fort Stockton.
