Vogel hired to support AgriLife Extension vet sciences certificate program

AMARILLO – Tyler Vogel hopes to help youth pursue their passion for veterinary sciences as the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Institute for Infectious Animal Disease veterinary sciences certificate program specialist in Amarillo.
Vogel will help with the implementation of the Veterinary Science Certificate Program that has students in 47 states, said Dr. Joe Mask, AgriLife Extension specialist youth veterinary science in College Station.
Vogel, a native of Canyon, began June 1. He will serve the Amarillo, Lubbock and Fort Stockton districts in the 4-H program and the Amarillo, Lubbock, West Texas and East Texas areas in FFA as well as home school students in the Panhandle. He will also assist with national programming when needed.
“I’ve always wanted to be involved in the veterinary field and this job seems to be a perfect way to do that,” Vogel said. “And this certificate program will allow other kids who have that interest like I did to get started.”
The veterinary sciences certificate is preparatory training for a veterinary assistant, Mask said. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue an education in the veterinary field.
“This program provides a platform for students who wish to pursue an associate, undergraduate, graduate or professional degree in the veterinary science field,” Mask said. “We are excited to have Tyler join us up in the Panhandle to engage interested youth in that agriculture-heavy region.”
Vogel said he hopes to increase the number of Panhandle youth interested in the program. He will spend his time training both students and AgriLife Extension county agents and agricultural science teachers throughout the region.
Vogel earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in animal science from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He previously worked at the Hearne and New Baden veterinary clinics owned by Drs. Trey and Jennifer Skiles in Hearne.
