McGuill receives distinguished service award

COLLEGE STATION – Dr. Peter McGuill, director of the V.G. Young Institute of County Government, part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, recently received the Distinguished Service Award from the West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association at its annual conference in Amarillo.

McGuill was honored for his work in coordinating annual educational content.

“We’ve provided assistance in addressing the needs of rural communities throughout the west region,” McGuill said. “We have been conducting needs assessments and tracking issues that can be addressed through educational programs and educational curriculum, helping local governments meet challenges as they strive to address the needs of their citizens.

“We work closely with the board of directors  to develop and plan targeted educational content that addresses these critical needs.”

The Texas Legislature created the institute in 1969 to provide educational programs for county elected officials. The V.G. Young Institute of County Government has continued this legacy of meeting the needs of county officials through high-quality, relevant education for 50 years.

“It’s an honor to receive this award and have the opportunity to work with leaders throughout Texas helping their communities thrive,” McGuill said.
