Sprague joins Hockley County as AgriLife Extension assistant agent

LUBBOCK — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has hired John Sprague as the assistant agriculture and natural resources agent for Hockley County.

“When you meet John, you quickly recognize his strong desire to help people and his enthusiasm to be engaged in both agriculture and youth related programs,” said Michael Clawson, AgriLife Extension district administrator, Lubbock.  “His eagerness to learn and develop into an Extension educator is well suited in his new role as an assistant AgriLife Extension agent.  I know he will bring a lot of knowledge and insight to his new role.”

Sprague earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural business and economics from West Texas A&M University. He also has previous job experience in harvesting, welding, fabrication, irrigation systems and soil nutrition. 

“I’ve always aspired to work with agriculture producers as well as having the opportunity to shape the future of agriculture by working with today’s youth,” said Sprague. “I feel as if this job is the perfect fit.”

Sprague said his goal as an assistant agent is to become more proficient in current as well as progressive agricultural practices, to share his love of agriculture and to help organizations inspire the agricultural leaders of tomorrow.
