Texas A&M AgriLife hires Sanchez as new San Angelo center senior administrator

The Texas A&M AgriLife Research has hired Fred Sanchez for the role of senior administrator for the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in San Angelo.

As the senior administrator, Sanchez will handle much of the operations management of the research center, including day-to-day activities of the center and oversight of the center’s numerous ranches and their livestock.

“I think he’ll be a perfect fit here at the center,” said Reid Redden, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension sheep and goat specialist and center director. “He’s worked for the USDA, AgriLife Extension and managed some very large ranch operations. He brings a strong skill set to this key position, and we’re excited to have him as part of our team.”

Sanchez earned his bachelor’s in agriculture science from Texas A&M University – Kingsville, returning to it later to earn the Texas Farm Credit Certificate in Advanced Ranch Management.

Passion for ranching

Sanchez grew up in a ranching community and a love of the land and livestock has always been in his blood, he said.

“One of my great passions is ranching and developing livestock, and working with people in the livestock industry,” said Sanchez. “I was living in San Antonio when my friend Darrell White, who was the previous senior administrator at the center, called me and told me he thought this job would be right up my alley. I wasn’t looking to leave San Antonio, but after talking to the leadership at the center, I decided to come up and meet with everyone.”

Ultimately, Sanchez decided the job sounded like an ideal fit.

“I’ve always been intrigued with research and when I worked at the University Ranch at Kingsville, I really enjoyed working with the students doing research and I enjoyed that academic environment,” he said.

Sanchez will provide direct administrative support to center leadership and support leadership with external and governmental relations. He will also be responsible for the center’s infrastructure, space allocation and budget.

“Fred is really excited about the opportunities here and looking forward to giving back to the industry,” Redden said.
