The Caldwell County Beef Cattle and Forage Workshop is set for Oct. 27 in Luling. This program will cover various agricultural topics including cover crops, cattle economics and controlling huisache.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Luling Foundation Farm, 523 Mulberry St.

The cost is $20, payable at the door. Preregistration is required by calling the AgriLife Extension office in Caldwell County at 512-398-3122.

One general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit is available. A picolinic acid training will be held at the end of the program.

“The information that will be presented should make producers more profitable and efficient, either through adopted practices or knowledge gained from the information provided,” said Wayne Morse, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Caldwell County.

“We are excited to have speakers who are all tremendous presenters for our event,” Morse said. “All have a great wealth of knowledge in their respective fields of study, and it should be an outstanding program to attend.”

The topics and expert speakers are:

  • Nitrogen Fixation and Cover Crops — Jake Mowrer, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension soil fertility specialist, Bryan-College Station.
  • Cattle Economics — David Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist, Bryan-College Station.
  • Huisache Control — Megan Clayton, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, Uvalde.
