BALLINGER – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has named Joel Webb as the integrated pest management agent for Runnels, Tom Green and Concho counties.
Dr. Charles Allen, AgriLife Extension state integrated pest management coordinator at San Angelo, made the announcement.
Webb will start June 1 and be headquartered at 613 Hutchins Ave, Suite 302 in Ballinger. His office number will be 325-365-5212.
“I, Joel’s new AgriLife Extension colleagues and the farmers he will be working with are looking forward to his arrival on the job,” Allen said.
Webb previously worked with Dr. Wayne Keeling, Texas A&M AgriLife Research weed scientist, on field crop weed management and with Dr. Russ Wallace, AgriLife Extension vegetable specialist, on vegetable and horticultural crops at Lubbock.
“Joel was raised at Bronte, so he will literally be at home working in West Texas,” Allen said.
“We expect he will hit the ground running, and that he will be able to quickly develop a strong integrated pest management program helping farmers in Tom Green, Runnels and Concho counties.”
Webb earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural services and development from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, in 2007 and a master’s degree in crop science from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, in 2015.
While working for Keeling and Wallace at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Lubbock, he performed a variety of duties including conducting experimental design, field layout and mapping; calibration and application of herbicides, collecting trial data per protocol standards, and managing and designing irrigation systems. He also conducted small plot research on watermelons, strawberries, tomatoes, cantaloupes, squash, snap peas, lettuce and spinach.
Webb fills the position formerly held by long time AgriLife Extension integrated pest management entomologist Rick Minzenmayer who retired in 2015.
