AgriLife Extension hires new 4-H agent for Wichita County

WICHITA FALLS – A move back to Texas opens the door for Amy Griffin to rejoin the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Oct. 23 when she begins her new job as the 4-H youth development agent in Wichita County.
Griffin first joined AgriLife Extension in 2015 as the family and consumer sciences agent for Ochiltree County in Perryton. She took a similar position earlier this year in Finney County, based Garden City, Kansas, but is now returning to Texas.
“We are glad to have Amy taking the position of Wichita County AgriLife Extension agent – 4-H,” said Dale Dunlap, AgriLife Extension district administrator. “She will truly be an asset to the program as she brings Extension experience from her prior service.
“Amy has a love for 4-H youth programming and understands the importance of project involvement, youth leadership and engaging volunteers,” Dunlap said. “Amy also has a background in family and community sciences that will be very effective in planning, teaching and conducting county, district and state events.”
He also said Griffin has a strong marketing background and has received awards through Extension for her work with social media and developing partnerships with local television stations.
Griffin, a native of Van Vleck, earned her bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences from Sam Houston State University and her master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of New England.
She previously worked for the City of Huntsville Main Street Program as an intern and at the Huntsville Family YMCA, which is where she said she made the decision to become an AgriLife Extension agent.
“With an interest and emphasis in child and youth development, I am excited that this will be my main focus,” Griffin said. “The 4-H program has always been a passion of mine, and I can’t wait to hit the ground running with the program in Wichita County.
“During my time in Kansas State Research and Extension, I learned different programming tools and resources that are an asset to my programming and my Extension career. However, being back in Texas and with AgriLife Extension definitely feels like home.”
