2018 Research Directors Awards announced at Texas A&M AgriLife Conference

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M AgriLife Research honored 10 employees with Research Director’s Awards during the recent AgriLife Conference on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station.
The new Texas A&M AgriLife Research Director’s Awards, established in 2018, recognize the achievements of those who have performed outstanding work that advances the agency’s mission.
“Texas A&M AgriLife Research continuously strives for excellence, and with this new award, we recognize those who go above and beyond to advance the agency’s mission through their work,” said Dr. Patrick Stover, vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M and director of AgriLife Research. “It’s through these efforts and achievements that we may obtain top rankings among research institutions nationwide.”
Individual awards and recipients are as follows:
– Research Scientist of the Year
Dr. Wenwei Xu, professor of corn breeding and genetics, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Lubbock.
– Administrative Support Staff Award
Sandra Welch, senior administrative coordinator, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Overton.
– Technical Support Staff Award
Shannon Baker, research associate, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Amarillo.
– Infrastructure/Information Technology Staff Award
Kay Ledbetter, communications specialist II, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Amarillo.
– Collaboration Award
Texas Panhandle Vegetable Production Research Team
The team included: Dr. Charlie Rush, Regents Fellow and professor of plant pathology, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Amarillo; Dr. Kevin Crosby, professor, department of horticultural sciences at Texas A&M, College Station; Dr. Russ Wallace, professor and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service vegetable specialist, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Lubbock; Ledbetter; James Gray, agricultural research technician II, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Amarillo; and Dr. Paul Colaizzi, research agricultural engineer, U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service at Bushland.
