Protectors in the pasture: Livestock guardian dogs
In the canine world, Livestock Guardian Dogs are the best of the best. Protecting a wide range of animals, these specially trained superstars not only protect livestock but deter predators. Research at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in San Angelo has a program dedicated to these furry professionals and the success of having them on a rancher’s team. The use of livestock guardian dogs has increased the survival rate of baby sheep/lambs and baby goats/kids, – an often easy meal for predatory wildlife.
