AgriLife Extension offers 4-H shooting sports training for volunteers

FORT STOCKTON – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a 4-H Shooting Sports Coach Training for 4-H volunteers beginning at 9 a.m. March 7 and ending at noon March 8 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Center in Fort Stockton.
The training is designed to certify 4-H volunteers in any one of the shooting sports disciplines of archery, pistol, rifle and shotgun, said Charlene Belew, AgriLife Extension 4-H specialist at Fort Stockton.
Participants must register by Feb. 20 via 4-H Connect. Belew said all prospective participants must have a current and approved 4-H Connect profile in order to register. Interested volunteers should visit with their local AgriLife Extension office about this opportunity.
“This is a rare opportunity to get this training,” Belew said. “This opportunity will be open statewide, though only 20 participants will be accepted per discipline and individuals must limit their selection to one discipline.”
The four categories of coaching training offered and their general requirements are:
– Coach, for those 21 and older who will lead or directly supervise youth. Cost is $120.
– Assistant coach, for those 14-20 years old who will assist a certified coach. Cost is $120. If under 18 years old, the individual must be accompanied to the training by a certified coach or adult training participant.
– Certified coach, for those already certified. A certified coach can attend at no charge if they are accompanying an assistant coach, but must email Belew at c-belew@tamu.edu to confirm their attendance by Feb. 20, as well as that of the participant they will accompany.
– AgriLife personnel can attend at no charge as a professional development opportunity, but must also email Belew by Feb. 20 to confirm their attendance.
