AgriLife Extension sets Vector Abatement and Mitigation Workshops across the state

STEPHENVILLE – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct 11 Vector Abatement and Mitigation Workshops across the state in the coming months, according to coordinators.
“The workshops, all with the same curriculum, are designed to train personnel in cities and municipalities that are in the field of mosquito abatement,” said Dr. Sonja Swiger, AgriLife Extension entomologist at Stephenville.
“The goal of the workshops is to educate personnel on mosquito identification, biology, ecology, control tactics, trap usage, surveillance and mosquito control. We will also offer an overview of vector-borne diseases of concern in Texas and discuss other biting insects.”
Swiger said individual registration is $40 and will include lunch, except for the Dallas location, which is $30 and will not include lunch. Copies of the Texas Mosquito Manual will be available at all the sites for an additional $10 each.
Each location will offer continuing education units for pesticide licensing through the Texas Department of Agriculture and animal control. The pesticide license units that will be available are three for structural and five for agriculture. A total of 4.75 animal control continuing education hours will also be available.
