AgriLife Extension sets Lubbock Vector Abatement and Mitigation Workshop

LUBBOCK – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a Vector Abatement and Mitigation Workshop, with registration from 8:30-9 a.m. and the program lasting until 3 p.m. April 30 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Lubbock.
The center is located at 1102 E. Farm-to-Market Road 1294.
“The workshop is designed to train personnel in cities and municipalities who are in the field of mosquito abatement,” said Dr. Sonja Swiger, AgriLife Extension entomologist at Stephenville.
“The goal of the workshop is to educate personnel on mosquito identification, biology, ecology, control tactics, trap usage, surveillance and control, she said. “We will also offer an overview of vector-borne diseases of concern in Texas and discuss other biting insects.”
Individual registration is $40 and will include lunch. The deadline for early registration is April 28. Copies of the Texas Mosquito Manual will be available at all the sites for an additional $10 each.
Continuing education units will be offered for pesticide licensing through the Texas Department of Agriculture and animal control-three for structural and five for agriculture. A total of 4.75 animal control continuing education hours will also be available.
