‘Growing good kids’ books recognized

COLLEGE STATION – The “Growing Good Kids – Excellence in Children’s Literature Award” has been conferred on three books, according to the American Horticultural Society and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s International Junior Master Gardener program.
The award recognizes children’s books that effectively promote an appreciation for gardening, plants and the environment, according to Randy Seagraves, Junior Master Gardener international curriculum director in College Station.
The winning books are: “Zora’s Zucchini,” by Katherine Pryor, illustrated by Anna Raff; “If You Love Honey,” by Martha Sullivan, illustrated by Cathy Morrison; and, “If You Plant a Seed,” written and illustrated by Kadir Nelson.
“With engaging stories and rich illustration, these three ‘green’ children’s books are this year’s best titles,” Seagraves said. “From a story about a girl growing a neighborhood garden swap to a rich depiction of the interconnectedness of the natural world to the simple power in small acts of kindness, these stories will appeal to and inspire young readers.”
