SAN ANGELO – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has named Mandi Seaton the new family and consumer sciences regional program leader for the agency’s West Region effective Oct. 1.
The announcement was made by Dr. Susan Ballabina, AgriLife Extension executive associate director at College Station.
Seaton will be headquartered at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at San Angelo. She will be responsible for leading the family and consumer sciences programming efforts across the 23-county West Central District and the 22-county Far West District.
“Mandi is known for her innovation in program development and delivery,” Ballabina said. “Her strong track record of providing excellent programs to meet local needs will serve her well as she transitions into this important agency leadership position.
“There is no doubt that she will provide outstanding programmatic leadership for family and consumer sciences and youth development programming in the West Region.”
Seaton earned a Master of Science in agricultural education and a Bachelor of Science in home economics education from Texas Tech University.
She started her AgriLife Extension career in 2004 as a family and consumer sciences agent in Bailey County. She transferred to Lamb County in 2009, serving there until accepting the regional program leader role. Before her AgriLife Extension career, she was a kindergarten teacher in the Lazbuddie Independent School District from 1991 until 2004.
Her awards and recognitions include Texas A&M AgriLife’s Vice Chancellor’s Award In Excellence; AgriLife Extension’s Superior Service Award; and AgriLife Extension’s District 2 “Outstanding Awards” in Family and Consumer Sciences, Multi-County 4-H Programming, 4-H and Youth Programming, Teamwork, Meritorious Service, Outstanding Outcome Program, Interpretive and Marketing Brochure County Team, and Community Resources and Economic Development Team.
Seaton is immediate past state president of the Texas Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has also served that group as president, president-elect, treasurer, District 2 director, and as a member of the awards and recognition committee.
Her other professional affiliations include memberships in the national, state and district Associations of Extension 4-H Agents. She currently serves as the national group’s conference seminars chair.
Her community honors include being named the 2016 Woman of the Year by the Littlefield Chamber of Commerce and the Employee of the Year by the Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce.
Seaton fills the position formerly held by Judy Gully, who retired Aug. 31 following a 23-year career with the agency.
