SAN ANTONIO – Angel Lawshea is the new youth outreach educator for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County.

Lawshea, who started June 1, will work with youth in the agency’s 4-H military and youth outreach programs. She will establish curricula and programming to expand youth educational opportunities and help young people develop life skills and positive character traits.
Lawshea has more than 10 years’ experience as an educator and customer service professional. She has an associate degree in business from Colorado Technical University Online and is in the process of completing her bachelor’s degree in business administration human resources. She has also done additional coursework in management, psychology and counseling.
As a paraprofessional substitute teacher at Brownfield Middle School in the Brownfield Independent School District, Lawshea taught special needs children at the middle school level. She was also a facilitator for testing, performance evaluations, record keeping and accurate placement of students based on progressive learning.
She also has had customer service experience with Sitel in Odessa, Startek Inc. in Big Spring, and with Aerotek, Medtronic and Aetna, all in San Antonio.
“In my various customer service roles, I have been involved in educating, training and professional development as well as communicating with a wide range of people,” she said. “I also facilitated group discussions, team-building exercises and simulations to help promote leadership skills and personal development.”
Lawshea said her experience in education and customer service, along with being a “military brat” and a mother, have prepared her for her role as AgriLife Extension’s new youth outreach coordinator for Bexar County.
“It’s like all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle from my experiences in customer service and teaching to wanting to inspire and help children and give them a place to belong all came together in this job,” she said. “I love kids and think I’ve found the perfect job.”
