AMARILLO – Just in time for the stock show season, Rachel Berry, formerly the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service 4-H youth development agent in Wharton County, has been hired to fill the same position in Potter County.
Berry, a native of Thibodeaux, Louisiana, started Dec. 18 in Amarillo.
“Rachel will be a great addition to the District 1 team,” said Brandon Dukes, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Amarillo. “Her knowledge and experiences will allow her to hit the ground running at a very busy time of the year.”
Berry joined AgriLife Extension in June 2014, after working for two years in a similar position for the Louisiana State University AgCenter in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and then spent five years teaching in various Louisiana schools. She is currently attending Texas A&M University-Kingsville to obtain her master’s degree.
As the 4-H youth development agent in Wharton County, Berry’s main job duties were to provide leadership for 4-H clubs and programs in the county. She supported an active veterinary science program, a county council with 45 active members and an established livestock program.
“I was excited to get to make this move, because I wanted to make a change in programming that allowed me to expand my curriculum enrichment skills into the schools,” she said. “Potter County is a good place to do that. AgriLife Extension has a lot of good programs that are ideal for the schools.
“I also look forward to continuing to work with the livestock and the leadership projects in Potter County,” Berry said.
She is a member of the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association, the Texas Association of Extension 4-H Agents and the American Brahman Breeders Association.
