New ‘Grow It, Cook It’ program series to be presented in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office in Gillespie County will present three new “Grow It, Cook It” programs this year at its offices at 95 Frederick Road in Fredericksburg.
The programs will be from noon to 1 p.m. Individual programs are $15, or $25 for all three programs. They will be presented by AgriLife Extension family and community health agent Shea Nebgen and AgriLife Extension horticulture agent Beth McMahon.
“Learning how to grow something in your garden can be hard enough, but after it is produced you may be left wondering what to do with it,” McMahon said. “This new series is designed to help you learn not just how to grow vegetables, but how to also prepare and cook them.”
Program dates and themes will be:
Jan. 18 – The Classic Onion.
May 10 – Heat-beating Sweet Potatoes.
Sept. 6 – The Trendy, Versatile Cauliflower.
McMahon said program attendees can expect to learn about different vegetable varieties along with how to nurture, harvest and cook them.
“Recipe samples are part of the program,” she said. “Don’t waste that garden space on something you aren’t even sure you will like. Find out how to cook your produce and see whether it’s something you really want to have in your garden.”
Payment can be made ahead of time or at the door by cash or check. Credit cards will not be accepted. There will be no refunds for missed programs, and payments are non-transferable.
