Hammel will help shape Travis County youth as new 4-H youth development agent

Kyle Hammel is the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service 4-H youth development agent for Travis County.

Hammel, who began Oct. 1, will be responsible for the development and oversight of 4-H youth programming and implementation for Travis County.

“We are very excited to have Kyle as part of our Travis County team,” said Michael Haynes, AgriLife Extension administrator for the agency’s District 10. “His experience coupled with his organized style make him a great fit to lead one of District 10’s largest 4-H organizations.”

Hammel earned a  master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education for business and technology from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.

His previous experience includes as a facilities coordinator for University Campus Recreation and Intramurals at Georgia Southern University, where he was responsible for recruiting, hiring, supervising and evaluating more than 60 student staff in positions for facilities graduate assistants. In that position, he scheduled, approved and assessed more than 14,000-plus hours of university and community one-time, weekly and annual reservations. He also planned, designed and directed the execution of university, community and private events annually, several of which had 2,000-plus attendees.

Prior to this, Hammel was a facilities graduate assistant at Georgia Southern University.

Hammel was also a building supervisor and facility manager at Kansas State University. He has been involved in various leadership activities and committees at both universities and has participated in several state, regional and national conferences held by the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association, or NIRSA. He is a NIRSA professional member and previously served as the association’s treasurer, then president, at Kansas State University.

Hammel also has an American Safety and Health Institute certification in instruction for CPR, defibrillator and first aid, is a National Swimming Pool Association certified pool operator and has received American Red Cross training in CPR, defibrillator and first aid. He has also been trained on Question, Persuade and Refer suicide prevention and has had safe space training.

“I am excited to be a part of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and to serve Texas 4-H and Travis County,” Hammel said. “I am ready to make an impact however I can and am looking forward to providing development opportunities for the youth of Travis County and help them prepare for their future.”
