Kyle Hammel new 4-H, youth development agent for Travis County
Kyle Hammel is the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for 4-H and youth development for Travis County.
In this role, Hammel will be responsible for programming and implementation of a variety of 4-H and youth development activities for the county.
Hammel earned a master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University in 2016 and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education for business and technology from Kansas State University in 2014.
“We’re glad to have Kyle as a new member of our District 10 team,” said Michael Haynes, AgriLife Extension district director based in Uvalde. “He has a breadth of experience related to working with people of all ages, coordinating youth programs, overseeing sports-related activities and developing summer camps. He will be a great addition to the AgriLife Extension office in Travis County and will work hard to provide educational and character-building opportunities to youth throughout the county.”
Prior to coming to AgriLife Extension, Hammel was facilities coordinator for campus recreation and intramurals at Georgia Southern University. His duties included recruiting, hiring, supervising and evaluating 60-plus student staff. He also scheduled facilities use, including planning, designing and directing the implementation of university, community and private events hosting up to 2,000 attendees.
At Georgia Southern, Hammel also helped develop health and kinesiology class schedules and inclement weather plans for gym, field and studio spaces. He was also responsible for operational budgeting and coordination for facility equipment, equipment checkout, staff training and general supplies as well as building security and preparedness for patrons and employees.
From 2010-2014, Hammel was a building supervisor then facility manager at Kansas State University. His additional experience at Kansas State University included working as a special events supervisor, weight room supervisor and aquatics supervisor.
Hammel is American Health and Safety Institute certified as an instructor for in CPR, AED and first aid and has also been American Red Cross certified in those areas. He is a National Swimming Pool Association certified pool operator, has tournament-level certification from USA Ultimate Frisbee and has received safe space and suicide prevention training. He is a long-time National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association professional member, serving as the president of that organization while attending Kansas State.
“I am excited to be a part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and to serve Texas 4-H and Travis County,” Hammel said. “I am ready to make an impact any way I can and am looking forward to providing development opportunities for the youth of Travis County to help them prepare for their future.”
