A new fundraising campaign by the Texas 4-H Foundation aims to create more opportunities to prepare Texas 4-H members to become future leaders in a constantly changing society.

The new 4×4 for Texas 4-H Campaign, approved by the Texas 4-H Foundation board of directors with support from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is a four-year, $4 million campaign to support 4-H youth participating in county-, district- and state-level programs.

This campaign will not only open many opportunities for our youth, it will also allow our county agents and 4-H faculty to introduce new and exciting programs for them. Society is changing, and we need to develop strong leaders for tomorrow and the coming decades.”

A 4-H game changer

Over the past two years, the Texas 4-H Foundation has created a new infrastructure allowing regional events to bring awareness to Texas 4-H programs and youth. This set the stage for the new fundraiser, which allows corporations, businesses and individuals to donate $25,000 over the next four years.

Montza Williams, Ed.D., AgriLife Extension 4-H program director, said Texas 4-H is the largest 4-H program in the country, and the organization strongly supports the Texas 4-H Foundation’s fundraising endeavor.

Williams said providing youth with opportunities through 4-H programs helps develop confidence and leadership skills so they can be productive and contributing members of society.

Fundraiser organizers said the campaign will attract current and new donors who will be part of the Foundation’s legacy.

“This campaign allows our donors to support 4-H programs at all levels,” he said. “These donations will open so many more opportunities to get more youth involved in Texas 4-H. It’s a game changer for Texas 4-H.”

About the 4×4 for Texas 4-H fundraising campaign

“The fundraising campaign is the largest undertaken for Texas 4-H,” said Courtney Dodd, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension associate director for health, families and youth programs.

The commitment is simple, she said. Donors agree to support 4-H youth by committing to donate a total of $25,000 during the next four years. Contributions can be directed toward any program or combination of programs.

For example, Dodd said one year of funding can support Texas 4-H natural resources programs, and the next year can be directed toward 4-H STEM or livestock programs or even the Foundation’s scholarship program.

“This campaign will not only open many opportunities for our youth, it will also allow our county agents and 4-H faculty to introduce new and exciting programs for them,” Dodd said. “Society is changing, and we need to develop strong leaders for tomorrow and the coming decades.”
