CHILDRESS – Zeb Petty has been hired to fill the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agriculture and natural resources agent position in Childress County, according to Miles Dabovich, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Vernon.
“We are looking forward to having Zeb on the District 3 Team,” Dabovich said. “His background and education will be a great fit for the AgriLife Extension program in Childress County.”
Petty is a native to the area, raised 100 miles south on a ranch near Rule, where he was active in his family ranch, as well as in 4-H and FFA programs. He earned his associates degree from Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater and his bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M University in Canyon.
Most recently he fulfilled an internship with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department at Palo Duro Canyon
“My background in FFA and 4-H has prepared me to be a county agent by giving me the leadership roles that will help me to be the best county agent I can possibly be,” Petty said.
“You work with people in this job and I love to work with people and help them,” he said. “I look forward to working with the kids in 4-H, teaching them responsibility and how to take care of their projects and be productive citizens in the future.”
Petty said his experience with growing winter wheat on the family ranch will help also, but because the county has a mix of crops, he will be doing a little learning of his own in this new position.
