DALLAS — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, from Jan. 23 – Feb. 28, will conduct the first simultaneous training of all its health and wellness outreach volunteers across the state.
The 40-hour statewide training is for AgriLife Extension’s Master Wellness Volunteer Program, which trains Texans to help educate the public on wellness and preventive health, according to the program website.
“This is the first time we’ve ever attempted this training for the entire state at once,” said Paula Butler, AgriLife Extension regional program leader in Dallas. “All trainees will meet face-to-face at their respective AgriLife Extension county offices on Jan. 23, then again on Feb. 28. Those days will include live training sessions over WebEx from state specialists. The days between the in-person sessions will be online training.”
Registration for volunteers remains open through Jan. 16. Go to https://agriliferegister.tamu.edu/productListingDetails/2422 to sign up.
“This is truly something for anyone interested in living healthfully and promoting wellness for the benefit of their fellow citizens,” Butler said.
Volunteers will assist their respective AgriLife Extension agents in family and community health to conduct outreach initiatives on preventive health, she said. Worksite wellness coordinators, students, faith-based wellness coordinators and community leaders are especially encouraged to participate.
Registration is $25 for students and $75 for all other participants. A full training agenda is forthcoming and will be sent directly to registered volunteers, Butler said.
