Wheat field day will be held on May 23 in Bushland
Research updates, variety trials for wheat, small grain featured
Texas A&M AgriLife Research and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a wheat field day at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station at Bushland, 2301 Experiment Station Road, on May 23.
The field day provides the opportunity to learn the latest in research and receive updates on the new varieties in triticale, wheat and small grains.
The event will be from 8-11 a.m., with the program beginning at 8:30 a.m. There is no registration required.
There also will be a walking tour of the station’s wheat and small grains plots led by plant breeders and agronomists.
Field day topics
The following topics and speakers will be featured:
- AgriLife Research update — Amir Ibrahim, Ph.D., associate director and chief scientific officer, AgriLife Research, Bryan-College Station.
- Wheat conditions update — Texas Wheat Producers Board and Association.
- Texas uniform variety trials — Brandon Gerrish, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station.
- New and upcoming wheat and triticale varieties — Jackie Rudd, Ph.D., AgriLife Research wheat breeder and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Amarillo, and Jason Baker, AgriLife Research triticale breeding and research specialist, Amarillo.
- Introduction of new pathologist and plant pathology program — Nolan Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Research and AgriLife Extension plant pathologist and professor, Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, Amarillo.
- Small grain and silage trial — Jourdan Bell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Amarillo, and Juan Pineiro, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension dairy specialist and assistant professor, Department of Animal Science, Amarillo.
