Randall County Agriculture Day and Crops Tour set for Aug. 27 in Canyon
Sessions feature program updates, equipment demonstrations
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the 47th annual Randall County Agriculture Day and Crops Tour on Aug. 27 in Canyon.
The event will take place from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Kuhlman Extension Center, 200 N. Brown Road. The event is free, and an RSVP by 5 p.m. Aug. 23 is required. To RSVP, call the AgriLife Extension office in Randall County at 806-468-5543 or visit https://tx.ag/RandallCoAgDay.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available for private pesticide license holders, including two general units and one drift minimization unit.
Morning session topics and speakers
The morning session will include the following topics and speakers:
- Weather patterns and outlooks — Joanne Culin, warning coordination meteorologist, U.S. National Weather Service, Amarillo.
- Program updates — Jeff Lewter, district conservationist, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, Canyon, and Samantha Dutcher, director, USDA Farm Services Agency in Randall County, Canyon.
- Insurance programs and updates — Rachel Myers, owner, Myers Crop Insurance, Claude.
- In-depth look at livestock risk protection insurance and its benefits — David Baumann, manager, Box Five Land and Cattle LLC, Amarillo.
The noon luncheon will feature keynote speaker Josh Winegarner, director of government relations, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Amarillo. Winegarner will be speaking on cattle feeding policies, as well as provide participants with a cattle market outlook.
Afternoon session demonstration topics and presenters
The afternoon sessions will feature two live demonstrations of the latest farm equipment and techniques used in farming.
Topics and demonstrators will be:
- Drone aerial herbicide application demonstration — Jeff Haggard, production manager, Advanta U.S. Inc., Canyon.
- Smooth Agricultural Ranch Rover, a robotic cattle feeding unit demonstration — River McTasney, chief executive officer and co-owner, and Hunter Allemand, chief financial officer and co-owner, both with Smooth Ag Solutions Inc., Graham.
