The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a Texas Beef Quality Assurance training on Oct. 15 in Big Spring.

Hosted by the AgriLife Extension office in Howard County, the training will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon at the G.C. Broughton Ag Complex, 2411 Echols Drive.

The training is a joint effort between AgriLife Extension, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas Beef Council and is geared toward those working in the beef industry.

About the course

The training will be taught by Ron Gill, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension livestock specialist and professor in the Department of Animal Science, Stephenville, and Bruce Carpenter, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension livestock specialist and professor in the Department of Animal Science, Ft. Stockton.

Producers will learn the best management practices to ensure their cattle and beef are high quality and are produced in a safe and wholesome environment.

Topics will include:

  • Food safety.
  • Cattle and beef quality.
  • Vaccine handling.
  • Environmental stewardship.
  • Cattle handling and well-being.
  • Residue avoidance.
