The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Overton will host a virtual pesticide continuing education units program on Nov. 21. 

The online course will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $35 per person and online registration is available at https://tx.ag/OvertonCEU. Deadline to register is Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. 

About the course

Participants will receive five Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide continuing education units — one laws and regulations, one integrated pest management and three general.

Topics offered include: 

Morning session — 8:30-11:30 a.m.                                                                                          

  • Protecting pollinators from pesticides, Garrett Slater, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension honeybee specialist and assistant professor in the Department of Entomology, Overton. 
  • Control of insects in gardens and flower beds, Greg Grant, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent, Smith County. 
  • Weed control in pastures and hay meadows, Vanessa Corriher-Olson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension forage specialist and professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Overton.  

Afternoon session — 1-3 p.m.

  • Control of cool-season weeds and grasses in your lawn, Chrissie Segars, Ph.D., west research scientist, PBI Gordon Corporation
  • Using pesticide labels and record keeping, Jason Banta, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist and professor in the Department of Animal Science, Overton, and Corriher-Olson.

A practice session will be offered the week of the meeting for those who want to try the process of connecting and viewing the material via Zoom.
