Youth Adventure Program entomology camp slated for July 13-18 at Texas A&M
Students will learn about how insects interact with their environments and different careers in the field of entomology
The Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Entomology will host a Youth Adventure Program, YAP, entomology camp for rising seventh through 10th graders on July 13-18 at Texas A&M University in Bryan-College Station.
The camp, which is a week-long overnight camp, is part of YAP, a series of one-week courses designed to encourage career explorations in fields of interest to gifted and talented students.
Registration for the entomology camp opens in January. Interested individuals can submit an interest form at http://tx.ag/entoyap2025. Tuition for all courses is $1,299. A deposit payment of $399 is required to complete registration, and the remaining balance can be made in three equal monthly payments from March-May.
About the entomology camp
Students will discover the ways insects interact with their environments, their significance to human society, and different careers in the field of entomology.
They also will gain practical, field- and laboratory-based skills through hands-on activities, experiments and expeditions to distinct habitats.
Students will collect, identify and preserve insects to create their own unique insect collections. Special topics include honey beekeeping, edible insects and the fields of forensic, medical and veterinary entomology.
By the end of this course, students will know the basics of insect diversity, biology, behavior, morphology and ecology. They will also gain insights into how to pursue a passion for insects through high school and beyond.
About the YAP program
YAP classes run across a broad range — from architecture to veterinary medicine — and are taught by Texas A&M professors and other professionals. Those leading the classes will introduce concepts and principles and then allow for discussion and doing as a strategy for engaging students in the investigative process.
Classes meet from 9-11 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m., and YAP also includes additional social and recreational activities in the late afternoons and evenings to provide for student interaction in other settings.
