The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Washington County will host the 53rd annual South Central Texas Cow-Calf Clinic on Oct. 25 in Brenham.

The event will be held at the Washington County Expo Sales Facility, 1305 E. Blue Bell Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Online registration is available at https://tx.ag/SCCowCalfClinic. Early registration, which runs through Oct. 21, is $40 per person. After that date, registration is $50. Registration includes admission to the clinic, tradeshow and afternoon social, as well as lunch, refreshments and a ticket for the grand prize drawing. 

There will also be an early bird session at 6:30 a.m. on picolinic acid training. The cost for this session is $10. 

About the clinic

The theme for this year’s clinic is Dollars and Cents, Pest and Profits – Successful Management Strategies for Producers in Today’s Dynamic Market.  

The clinic features presentations, live cattle demonstrations, a drone demonstration and several contests for participants to test their knowledge and skills. Throughout the day there will be time to visit with tradeshow vendors, view cattle in the contests and network with producers, speakers and others.

  • Picolinic Acid Inovra Herbicide Training — Rob Brooks, range and pasture specialist, Envu.
  • Current and future cattle markets — David Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist and professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, Bryan-College Station. 
  • Live cattle demonstration — Karl Harborth, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension livestock specialist and assistant professor, Department of Animal Science, Corpus Christi. 
  • Laws and regulations for applicators in Texas — Don Renchie, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension pesticide safety program coordinator and associate director for the AgriLife Extension Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit, Bryan-College Station.
  • Weed control and drone demonstration — Justin Hale, director of operations, Ignition Land Services.

CEUs available

Participants who hold a private, commercial or non-commercial pesticide applicator’s license will receive three continuing education units: one laws and regulations, one general, and one integrated pest management.

An additional laws and regulation unit is available for those who attend the early bird session on picolinic acid training.
