The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a program discussing the latest innovations in beef cattle management on Aug. 22 in Vega.

The event will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Oldham County Community Center, 304 Vega Blvd. To RSVP, contact the AgriLife Extension office in Oldham County at 806-639-2180 or email Mason Carter at [email protected].

There will be one integrated pest management continuing education unit available to Texas Department of Agriculture private pesticide applicator license holders.

Beef cattle meeting agenda

The meeting allows producers to learn the latest research and newest technology and innovation from area experts. The following topics will be covered:

  • Using ultrasound technologies in beef operations: Pregnancy detection and liver abscesses — Tommy Perkins, Ph.D., associate professor of animal science, West Texas A&M University, Canyon.
  • The future of fencing: Virtual fencing and incorporation on the ranch — Eric Yates, senior territory manager, Vence, Longview.
  • Use of insect growth regulators and fly control strategies — Jason Smith, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist and associate professor in the Department of Animal Science, Amarillo.
