The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Bexar County will host the 2025 Beef Cattle Short Course Jan. 14 in San Antonio.

The course is scheduled from 3:30-8:30 p.m. and will be held at the Ozuna Library on the campus of Palo Alto College, 1400 Villaret Blvd., San Antonio. 

Cost is $20 per person and registration is available by contacting Kennedy Green at the AgriLife Extension office for Bexar County at 210-631-0400 or [email protected]. Deadline to register is Jan. 7. 

There will be two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units offered.

An evening meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. and feature keynote speaker Jeff Geider, William Watt Matthews Directorship at the Texas Christian University Institute of Ranch Management, will address, “Positioning Your Operation for Success – How to Make Key Decisions.” 

Sessions offered and continuing education units

The concurrent sessions will begin at 4 p.m., and participants can choose one of the following concurrent sessions. 

  • Weed and brush management with Corteva Agriscience — Paxton Dahmer, range and pasture specialist, Corteva Agriscience. This is eligible for one integrated pest management CEU.
  • Planning for cattle operation in 2025 — Laura Martinez, senior relationship manager, Capital Farm Credit. 
  • Pesticide compliant investigation process — Vick Alexander, assistant regional director, Texas Department of Agriculture. It will provide one laws and regulations CEU.

In addition to the concurrent sessions, a tour of the Holt Cat facility headquarters in San Antonio is available from 1-2:30 p.m. for the first 25 attendees who wish to participate.
