The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the 14th annual Central Texas Stocker Cattle Program on June 26 in West.

Hosted by the AgriLife Extension beef and forage committees in Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Johnson, Hamilton, Hill and McLennan counties, the program allows participants to hear the latest updates on the stocker cattle industry from agency and local experts.

The event will run from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the West Auction Barn, 206451 Interstate 35 North frontage road, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Breakfast and lunch will be included, and there will be a vendor showcase.

Cost to attend is $20 and individuals need to RSVP before June 18. To RSVP, contact the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County by calling 254-757-5180 or emailing [email protected].

Program agenda

Speakers and topics include:

  • Agriculture financing in a changing world — Justin Richard and Shawna Ranly, relationship managers, Capital Farm Credit, Waco.
  • Defining the dollar value of cattle — Brian Uptmore, auctioneer and manager, West Livestock Auction, West.
  • Importance of securing a safe food supply — Chris Ford, special agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Dallas.
  • Proper vaccination for carcass integrity — John Pollreisz, DVM, managing veterinarian, Zoetis Animal Health.
  • Nutrition, forage first — Jason Cleere, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension cattle specialist and associate professor in the Department of Animal Science, Bryan-College Station.
  • Cattle market update — David Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist and professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Bryan-College Station.
