Continuing education program for landscapers set Dec. 7 in Fredericksburg
Event features turf weed control, landscape plant disease management topics
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be hosting a five-hour continuing education unit program for landscapers on Dec. 7 in Fredericksburg.
The program will be held from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office in Gillespie County, 38 Business Court. Registration is $75, and participants can preregister by calling the AgriLife Extension office in Gillespie County at 830-997-3452. The deadline to register is Dec. 4.
A total of five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available — two general, one laws and regulations, one integrated pest management and one drift.
Donuts, coffee and a fried catfish lunch will be included in the registration fee. For more information, contact the AgriLife Extension office in Gillespie County or Beth McMahon, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent in Gillespie County, at 830-997-3452.
Program topics
The program is geared toward participants with TDA commercial, private or non-commercial pesticide licenses who need continuing education units.
Topics will include:
- Turfgrass weed control – Joey Young, Ph.D., associate professor of turfgrass science, Texas Tech University, Lubbock.
- Laws and regulations review – Vick Alexander, assistant regional director-pesticides, Texas Department of Agriculture, San Antonio.
- Landscape plant disease overview: Cause and control – Kimberly Cochran, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension plant pathologist, Uvalde
- Characteristics of common diseases in the landscape – Cochran.
- Adjuvants: Improving pesticide efficiency and reducing off-target applications – Nathan Burson, branded products territory manager, Wilbur-Ellis Agribusiness Branded Products, Waco.
