The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the East Texas Forage Conference on Aug. 16 in Hallsville.

The event will be from 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m. at Gold Hall, 101 Elm St. Cost is $20, and people interested in attending should call the AgriLife Extension office in Gregg County at 903-236-8429 by Aug. 5 to RSVP.

A total of four Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available for private pesticide applicator license holders, including one general, two integrated pest management, and one laws and regulations.

On the agenda

Producers will learn the latest updates and trends in forage management from AgriLife Extension specialists and industry experts.

The topics and speakers include:

  • Year-round beef cattle management plan — George Perry, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Research beef cattle reproductive physiology professor  in the Department of Animal Science, Overton.
  • Sprayer calibration — Darren Rozell, owner, Rozell Sprayer Manufacturing, Tyler.
  • Kaput feral hog stewardship — Rozell.
  • Impact of soil fertility as a weed control mechanism — Clint Perkins, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Harrison County.
  • Year-long pond management strategies — Tyson Keese, AgriLife Extension pond management program specialist, Overton.
