The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a free estate planning workshop for agricultural producers in Bexar and Atascosa counties on Aug. 27 in San Antonio.

The event will be from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Memorial Auditorium at the Witte Museum, 3801 Broadway Ave.

Importance of estate, financial planning main focus

Participants will learn the importance of estate and financial planning, such as creating wills and trusts, to ensure the security of their farms or ranches.

The workshop will also identify stressors unique to farming and ranching and discuss the strategies and best management practices available.

Speakers will include:

  • Welcome and museum overview — Helen Holdsworth, chief of engagement, Witte Museum, San Antonio.
  • Estate planning basics — Tiffany Lashmet, J.D., AgriLife Extension agriculture law specialist and associate professor in the Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics, Amarillo.
  • Farm stress — Miquela Smith, AgriLife Extension health program specialist, AgriLife Extension Disaster Assessment and Recovery Unit, Lubbock.
  • Financial considerations of estate planning — Laura Martinez, senior relationship manager, Capital Farm Credit, San Antonio.
