Grain grading workshops Aug. 13, Aug. 14 in Amarillo
Participants will learn the importance of grading grain
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host two single-day grain grading workshops on Aug. 13 and Aug.14 in Amarillo.

The events will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Amarillo, 6500 W. Amarillo Blvd.
The cost of attending each workshop is $100, which covers equipment and materials as well as lunch. Online registration is available at https://tx.ag/2025GrainGrading/. Each class is limited to 40 participants, and the registration deadline is Aug. 12.
About the workshops
During each workshop, participants will learn the importance of grading grain, become familiar with grain grading standards, develop proper sampling techniques, and identify different types of damages that occur and their potential impacts on grade and feeding value.
Workshop schedule
Morning session topics include:
- Why grade grain — DeDe Jones, AgriLife Extension risk management specialist and program co-coordinator, Department of Agricultural Economics.
- Grain quality and the feedlot industry — Vinícius Gouvêa, DVM, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Research ruminant nutritionist and assistant professor, Texas A&M Department of Animal Science, Amarillo.
- Current grain standards and upcoming changes — Tim Hall and Clayton Hanson, U.S. Department of Agriculture Federal Grain Inspection Service, Kansas City, Missouri.
- Hands-on wheat grading workshop — Hall and Hanson.
Afternoon session topics:
- Hands-on corn grading workshop — Hall and Hanson.
- Hands-on sorghum grading workshop — Hall and Hanson.
