The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the Greenhouse and Nursery Pest Management Seminar on July 26.

The seminar will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Overton, 1710 Farm-to-Market Road 3053, Overton. Registration is $50 and is available online at https://tx.ag/GreenhousePestMgt.

A total of 12 Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available to pesticide applicator license holders, including six agricultural pest units and six structural pest control units.

The program will provide the latest information on emerging pests and the best management practices for greenhouse and nursery producers and retailers.

The program will cover the following topics:

  • European pepper moth and best management practices in the green industry — Rafia Khan, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist and assistant professor in the Department of Entomology, Overton.
  • Ants: Integrated pest management in nurseries and greenhouses — Robert Puckett, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist and associate professor in the Department of Entomology, Bryan-College Station.
  • Best management practices for weed control in nurseries and greenhouses — Scott Nolte, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension statewide weed specialist and associate professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station.
  • Texas Department of Agriculture laws and regulations for nurseries and greenhouses — Kathy Newton, Texas Department of Agriculture regulatory inspector, Dallas.
  • Integrated pest management for the silverleaf whitefly in nurseries and greenhouses — Arash Kheirodin, Texas A&M AgriLife Research controlled environment entomologist and assistant professor in the Department of Entomology, Dallas.
  • Integrated disease management for fungi and bacteria — Erfan Vafaie, Ph.D., BioWorks technical services manager, Spring.
