Learn to Bird 2024 scheduled for Nov. 8-10 in Sherman
Event provides unique birding experience for beginners
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a Learn to Bird program for beginning birders on Nov. 8-10 in Sherman.
The weekend-long event features focused birding trips led by local guide Ty Allen and educational presentations by researchers and other birding experts.
“This engaging weekend event promises participants the chance to expand their birding skills and explore the diverse avian habitats of Greyson County,” said Emily Grant, AgriLife Extension agent, Gillespie County.
The cost is $325 per person and online registration is available at https://tx.ag/LearnToBird2024. Registration is limited to 30 people.
Participants will meet each day at the Greyson County Court House, 100 W. Houston St., for departure to event sites.
About the event
Learn to Bird is a hands-on experience that takes participants beyond the classroom and offers a unique opportunity to observe and learn about birds, Grant said. Participants will be able to expand their birding knowledge and explore beautiful habitats.
The weekend includes:
- An experienced birding guide and birding buddy.
- 10-plus hours of active birding, including owling at night.
- Two-plus hours of practical education seminars.
- Transportation to and from event sites.
- Two lunches and two dinners during the event.
- Advanced training hours for Master Naturalists.
Event schedule
Nov. 8
- 6-8 p.m. — Welcome dinner and Birding 101.
Nov. 9
- 8 a.m. to noon — Focused birding/bird identification.
- 2-4 p.m. — Learn to Bird classroom presentations.
- After dark — Owl identification.
Nov. 10
- 8 a.m.-2 p.m. — Focused birding/bird identification
